Using the material1_0.tar file in bug report 0010498 I am able to get the behavior where it allows me to write out the data by loading the file, creating a slice filter, then delete the slice filter, and then go to the writers menu and I get both the XMLPMultiBlockDataWriter as well as the XMLPPolyDataWriter. The XMLPPolyDataWriter doesn't appear as an option in that menu until I delete the slice filter though. Not sure why we get this behavior but am writing this down so I remember how to create the situation. |

How interesting. I think that the behavior has to do with changing the active filter in the pipeline browser rather than adding or deleting objects. So, if you load the file and then create the slice filter, only the multi block writer is available. But if you click on the reader and then back to the slice in the pipeline browser, then the poly data writer appears as an option. I think the only significance of adding and removing the slice filter was to unselect and reselect the reader. |

You're correct about this not being due to the slice filter at all. I was able to reproduce this with just unselecting and selecting the reader. |

It should be changed now so that the polydata writer (or any of the other grid writers) is not an option if there is a multiblock data set. If the user decides to use the merge blocks filter which merges the blocks into an unstructured grid for the multiblock data set with a single polydata, then the writer available to that filter is the XMLPUnstructuredGrid writer which is the behavior I'd expect. |

I THINK I understand this bug. Tested local server, trunk, Windows. If the bug is still around, please reopen it. |
