Now, try to clear the selection. The icon is not active.

Alan,

This is not a bug. You haven't made a "permanent" selection until you've clicked somewhere. That's why the icon is disabled. As soon as you click a on a cell to "mark" it, the icon becomes enabled and I tested that you can indeed click it to clear the selection.

Makes sense. I incorrectly reported this as a bug. Closing.
