Summary0015186: H5hut
DescriptionA user states that we will have to move from h5part to h5hut. I am documenting his e-mail here. Note that this is critical functionality for Sandia, if and when Aleph moves to h5hut.

Are there plans to support H5hut in paraview?

Currently Aleph uses h5part, which is being replaced by h5hut.

I did some more searching and found at http://vis.lbl.gov/Research/H5hut/ [^]

"H5hut is a veneer API for HDF5: H5hut files are also valid HDF5 files and
are compatible with other HDF5-based interfaces and tools. For example,
the h5dump tool that comes standard with HDF5 can export H5hut files to
ASCII or XML for additional portability. H5hut also includes tools to
convert H5hut data to the Visualization ToolKit (VTK) format and to
generate scripts for the GNUplot data plotting tool."

This gives us several options.
1) converting to vtk, although native support would be prefered.
2) use GNUPlot.

This should also mean the h5part format can be removed from paraview.

Downloads of the new h5hut are not yet available so we can't even play with it to
check out it's capabilities.
