Summary | 0005681: Changing default view settings
Description | The active view settings and application settings have been appropriately split up (yea). But now there is no way to change what the default for the view settings are. What if I want 3D views to come up with a black background? What if I want light kit to come on by default? So, the application settings need "tabs" for the default values for view settings.

Another option. Rather than adding view settings to the application settings, you could have a "Set as Default" button in the view settings dialog. |

The current behavior is that the settings of the last one is the "default". This also gets saved to the configuration so that it is used when paraview is restarted. Is this not enough? |

That's not bad behavior (pretty much what we have expected from before) and probably good enough to leave in for 3.2. However, there are several issues I'd like to see eventually addressed (or at least argued away). 1. "Last one" is pretty ambiguous when dealing with multiview. It is never really clear to me what settings are saved. 2. A consistent problem with the current solution is that it often saves the settings when I did not intend to. For example, I might load a state file from another user who likes a white background. After loading the state file, I am now stuck with the other user's settings for a white background with black fonts until I go through and manually change everything back. 3. How does this behavior work with charts? When I add a title to a chart, is that view setting going to be saved? That is almost certainly not what I want. |

The current way of saving view state works OK. No one is complaining about it right now, so let's close this off unless it becomes a problem. |

Agreed with Ken. Tested client/server. |
