I've just run into the same problem (CVS updated at earlier in the week) and I cannot run pvserver without a X display. It means I can't run it on my cluster (not even when using OSMesa and the --use-offscreen-rendering option....)
I never had this behaviour before / connecting with X was not necessary.
This problem started this week / last week cvs was fine.
Any idea why it's causing that ?
Thanks
