I remember discussing grid type splits during developer meetings way back when. Ultimately, we just left it with single splits because it had a nice clean GUI and seems to satisfy user needs well enough. If you disagree and think lots of people would like multiple or grid-like splits, then you should add the suggestion to ParaView’s UserVoice page (go to <a href="http://paraview.org">http://paraview.org</a> and then click on the blue “Tell us what you think” button in the upper right). If lots of people agree and vote for it, it will get implemented.<BR>
