if anyone is interested, I think it is a bug with the <b>rectilinear</b> vtk reader (or any derivatives).</div><div>I converted the same dataset to *.vtu format, and read the file series. Did the same experiment with temporal filters and everything looked perfectly fine. No error message or crashing. </div>
