Hi,
Unfortunately what I do in your case is what you prefer not to do: I write a different file for each time step and then use a .pvd paraview file to set the time step for the corresponding filename. This is easy. Then I load the pvd into paraview and it associates the time step with each data on each filename. I am not an expert in vtk file formats, so I do not know if you can embed all those time dependent files into one. In case you want to check the format for the pvd file, let me know and I can show you a simple example.
Dear all,

I am trying to manually create a VTK XML UnstructuredGrid that contains time varying data for each point. What would help me the most is an example file that contains this sort of information; it does not need to be in the UnstructuredGrid format. If someone could point me to such a file, that would be great!

The overall goal is to load this file into ParaView, and have each time step automatically recognized. It is not a problem to have multiple files (one for each time step), but I would very much prefer that the geometry is only saved once, due to its size.

Thanks for your help,
