I have now tried with version 3.98.1 and still see the same crash.

Thanks to a hint by Samuel Key, I thought about trying a much older version.

version 3.10 crashes.

version 3.8.1 (downloaded the binary ParaView-3.8.1-Linux-x86_64) runs smoothly and is able to clip without crashing.

I have the same problem - a bad allocation error is raised.
I can convert the dataset to a XMLmultiBlockDataSet and the problem still persists.

I can repeat the error in 3.98.1 (from the 64-bit linux binary)

I can repeat the crash also in vtk-5.10.1 and vtk-6.0.0-rc2

I have repeated the test using the data above with paraview 4.1 using the 64-bit linux binary.

Clipping now is successful (doesnt crash, and the clip works.)

I think this can now be closed.
