Summary0013751: Usability issues with selections
DescriptionThere are some usability problems with the selection in line charts. I notice all of these with the line plot created with the default plot over line applied to the default wavelet source.

1. The default interaction is to pan with the left button and select with the right button. When you click any of the +, -, or +/- buttons, the interaction changes to select with the left and do nothing with the right. At the very least you should still be able to select with the right button. I don't know if it's a good idea to change the binding of the left button. An alternative could be to have no buttons bound to selection by default and only enable selection when one of the selection buttons is pressed. (It always surprises me that the right button does not zoom.)

2. After you click on one of the +, -, or +/- buttons and then toggle it back off again, panning with the left button no longer works.

3. With normal selection with the right button or with selection with the +/- buttons, making an empty selection does not clear out the selection, but it should. As it stands right now there is no way to clear out the selection.

4. The - selection does not seem to do anything. I select some points, then press the - selection button, then rubber band around some selected points. Nothing happens.

1. Should be supported now. The right button is no longer connected to selection. Right-button allows you to zoom (similar to what one does in the 3D view). With right-button pressed, you can drag vertically to zoom along Y axis and horizontally to zoom along Z axis.

2. Not applicable anymore (works as expected). Now that the +,-, +/- buttons don't change interaction mode, just the selection modifiers, the left button remains unaffected.

3. Works now. If you select in the empty area, the selection should be cleared. There's still a problem (as captured by BUG 0014377).

4. Seems to work too. Note that now after hitting the '-' button, you'll still need to enter selection mode, either by hitting the 's' key or using the 'Rectangle Selection' button in the view's titlebar.
